Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!
We are hereby writing to you regarding the recent request by the GBC to Hridayananda das Goswami to forego his planned travels outside the United States until further consultation on the GBC stance in relation to Krishna West is effected. We would like to take this opportunity to respectfully express the following views.
We certainly appreciate the perspective adopted by the GBC in requesting Hridayananda das Goswami to refrain from travel outside the United States until a clearer understanding of Krishna West could be ascertained. No doubt the responsibility to maintain and defend the sanctity and chastity of Srila Prabhupada’s movement and it’s representatives is a weighty and perhaps despairingly delicate one, and we are sure more often than not a thankless task. We therefore appreciate all your ongoing endeavours to secure a healthy and flourishing future for the movement consistent with the undiluted and pristine teachings of our Founder Acarya.
Nevertheless, we feel somewhat disappointed and disheartened at this unexpected and sudden reversal in Maharaj’s travel arrangements, not least because considerable effort has already been expended in attempting to organise programs and events featuring Maharaj as the keynote speaker. We were highly motivated at the prospect of deploying Maharaj in the ongoing efforts to defend Krishna Consciousness against the cynical and often critical reception that it continues to receive in London, due to his savvy and intellectual presentation of our philosophy which we feel convinced will appeal to the challenging mindset characteristic of this region.
As aspiring followers of Srila Prabhupada, we have placed our faith in the GBC as our protectors and well-wishers, and we appreciate that their response was meant only to serve the best interests of ISKCON and its members. We therefore trust that they will honour that faith and give due consideration to the fact that Maharaj has been and continues to be unreservedly forthcoming with the GBC in its sincere attempts to assess the fidelity and consistency of Krishna West with Srila Prabhupada’s teachings and ambitions for his movement. Together with Maharaj’s fervent efforts to resolve misunderstandings and misconceptions, we hope that this ongoing and respectful deference to the authority of the GBC will serve to alleviate any remaining fears in this matter. We especially hope that you will expedite this resolution as a matter of urgency on account of the collateral damage being imposed on the reputation and trust placed in Maharaj because of the message that is unquestionably associated with the recent GBC decision.
We would therefore like to express our heartfelt gratitude to you for demonstrating an encouraging respect for due process by facilitating an opportunity for Maharaj to alleviate your valid concerns at this time. The devotees here in the UK would dearly love to have the enlivening and inspiring association of HH Hridayananda das Goswami, and we eagerly look forward to your prompt consideration on this matter. We hope that the issue may be speedily and amicably resolved for Srila Prabhupada’s pleasure, and the pleasure of the many devotees here in the UK and elsewhere who are excitedly awaiting Maharaj’s pending visit after so many years absence in these regions.
We pray that we have not offended you or any other GBC member with the words expressed herein. It certainly was not meant in an accusatory or aggressive tone, and we sincerely hope you did not receive it as such. We simply wanted to inform you that we are very much eager to have this issue resolved for the benefit of everyone concerned. We re-emphasise here that we are in no shape or form critical of the GBC body itself and we have the utmost regard and appreciation for your most difficult and demanding service. Yet as our well-wishers, we request that you please consider fully the issues at hand, following your consultation with Hridayananda das Goswami, for the benefit of all concerned.
Seeking your forgiveness and sympathies,
